DESCRIPTION DORM
The circulation of air in my dorm room at Fairleigh Dickinson is one of the worst things that has ever happened. Not only does the air not circulate correctly, but it fluctuates from being hot to cold continually. During this kind of weather it is definitely problematic, because most of the time it is very hot and or humid and our air than turns hot or humid. The constant struggle of balance is out of reach but there are a few attempts that have somewhat succeeded over my time in the room. The air circulation in my room is horrible, therefore I think that FDU should put forth some effort to fix the air in all the dorm rooms.
The air in the room is horrible due to the fact that I have gotten sick already two times from the air that chills my body. This caused me to not pay attention as well in school and made some of my grades go down. It's a domino effect especially when I'm staying up late to do homework and than my immune system goes down and unfortunately I can't do as well in school when my mind set is like that. And the air circulation is the main reason I can't do well in school, which should be addressed by administration.
This issue has been going on for over four weeks now and its not fair that Hamilton has a machine that can control the air, while we have something that just automatically shoots air out. My friends that live in Hamilton have showed me the control options for the machine and they have it perfectly set up to have the most comfortable air, and it feels great. The problem with this is that, the people that got into Hamilton as freshman were randomized and if it was, they should have those machines in Hamilton and Florence, rather than just Hamilton. The air circulation in all the dorms in Florence are awful compared to Hamilton.
This has been a long running problem, knowing from the past freshman who have stayed in the Florence dorms. They said that it's always been like that and FDU does not fix it because it is too expensive to have machines in each room. With having machines in each room, would cause problems, because they could tend to break and become a bigger and more expensive plan than they really wanted in the beginning. With this though, we are paying a large sum to be here, and comfort should be the number one thing that FDU should concentrate on when thinking about the dorm rooms and their setup. The circulation of air is part of comfort and the comfort should be the main thing they put our money towards rather than the different programs that they run, that know one cares about.
My community at FDU is made up of people just coming out of high school and the hominess is stripped right away from most of us. So we are a bunch of kids that really want to feel at home and create our second home here. We continually go day by day with these expectations that sometimes unfortunately can't come through the way we want them too. We are used to family taking care of us, and you can see it on all of our faces as we go day by day, going to class and coming back to our so called comfort at our dorm rooms. But the lurking problem of the air in the Florence community is something that needs to be taken care of.
As a student, I am severely disappointed in FDU's care of its students. The circulation of air is one of the worst things that FDU could do to my overall health and the way that I sleep. I can't sleep right and if I eventually do sleep right, I wake up in the morning with this harsh feeling in my throat that I can't quite get out. It effects my learning, and the way I go about school work and my education overall. I can't stress enough that the FDU administration should do something about the air, because its effecting my overall mindset towards life in general. And if this is not fixed during the winter, and cold air is blaring in my face, than my education and my lifestyle will go down with it unfortunately.
